Squarespace is an incredibly user friendly platform for building beautiful websites. But when you’re logging on for the first time, it can feel anything but.

There are some tricks that I wish I’d known at the start of my Squarespace journey. I now use them every day and they speed up my process no end. Read on for the best Squarespace keyboard hacks that will make your life so much easier when editing your website.

Escape Key to login

By simply hitting the Escape key (ESC) on your keypad, there’s a shortcut available to access the log in page. So easy and quick!

You’ll need to have this enabled in your settings, to do so follow these steps:
Settings > Advanced > Escape Key > 'Enable Login with Escape Key

Return to Home

There’s so many settings in Squarespace that you can get deep into different menus, like above. When you’re done and want to head into a different part of the dashboard, you can simply double click the back arrow to head to the home page. This saves you clicking back over and over again, a real handy time saver!

Device preview

See that thin grey line at the top of your website? Hover over it and a series of icons will appear, a mobile, tablet and desktop. To change the view of your dashboard, you can click these and the screen size will change within Squarespace. This is an absolutely incredible tool for checking your edits on mobile. No digging your phone and tablet out to refresh and tweak, it can all be done within Squarespace!

And if you want to view the desktop version without the Squarespace sidebar, just tap that Escape key to hide or show the home menu and view full preview. It’ll expand to full width so you can really see what you changes will look like live on desktop.

Search the Squarespace dashboard

Ever got lost in the backend of your own Squarespace website? Yep, even as a web designer I can forget where some settings are. But I don’t need to worry! You can bring up a search bar to search through the different menu layers in the Squarespace dashboard.

To do this, simply log in to your site and hit / or ? and type what you’re after.

Easily open a new item

This might not save much time but it’s certainly a nice little hack. When in collection pages (gallery, album, blog, product and events) you can hit the space bar to open a new item.

Type to search blocks

Oh, I can’t tell you how many times I lose where the search block is when adding a new block in. I used to scroll up and down for minutes. That is, until I discover that you can search the new block menu. Just type in the block you’re after to add it in.

Resize images in increments

To resize images in increments of 20-pixels, press and hold Shift while dragging and Image Block’s cropping handle (the grey circle underneath your image when you click on it in the editor). This will create more precise resizing for a more professional and clean look.
