Which Version of Squarespace Is My Website On?

If you’ve ever Googled something about the techy side of Squarespace since early 2020, chances are you’re met with a couple of options of instructions.

You can see it in my blogs like How to Add Custom Fonts which works on both platforms. And you can also see it on How to Customise Your Squarespace Form which shows you two different methods for 7.1 and 7.0.

If you’ve stumbled across this blog because you’ve been sitting in front of your laptop with a grumpy face to rival Simon Cowell’s because you just don’t understand what the flip all this means, this blog is for you. I’m going to guide you through finding out which version of Squarespace your website is built on so you can make those changes with confidence and ease. Girl, you’ve got this!

Which version of Squarespace do I have?

If you’re created your website since early 2020, chances are you’ve got yourself a Squarespace 7.1 site. But how do we know for sure? Let’s find out…

1. Log into your Squarespace Account

Head to squarespace.com and log in to your account in the top right corner before navigating to the backend of your website.

2. Navigate to Help

Next, you’re going to want to scroll down the left-hand settings menu until you find Help. Click on this to open up your Help settings.

3. Scroll to the Bottom to discover 7.0 or 7.1

At the bottom of this menu you should find a piece of text which tells you which version of Squarespace you are on. Here’s a little look at mine.

Note that if you’re on Squarespace 7.0 you’ll also be able to see which Template your site is based on. Like mine you can see here is based on the wonderful Brine. (My love for the Brine 7.0 template is a story for another day!) You see, websites built on 7.0 are also built on a template that has its own features. There are lots of different templates each with its own strengths and style options.

If you’re a 7.1-er don’t worry about templates! They’re all built on the same system so it’s one less thing to worry about!

Help, I don’t have a sidebar!

Not seeing the side menu with the help button on but seeing all sorts of funky things across the top of your page? Take a peek at your .squarespace.com url. Does it finish with /login rather than /config?

Sounds like you’re using an older version of the platform, Squarespace 5. The whizzes at Squarespace also call this their Legacy Platform.

This was built back in 2008 and it’s safe to say things have come a loooong way since then. We’re talking integrated ecommerce, improved SEO and some super sexy layouts. Updating to the latest version of Squarespace could be a fab move if you’re thinking of making some changes to your Squarespace 5 site. Slide into my DMs or shoot me a message if you’re stroking your chin wondering whether this is the right move for you.

So, there you have it folks. Now you know exactly which version of Squarespace you are using so you can make your changes and updates with confidence - knowing with confidence that you can follow the right set of instructions on those Googled articles.
